Botanically known as Sclerocarya birrea, Marula tree is native to southern parts of African grasslands such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, and Swaziland. It is a member of the same botanical family Anacardiaceae as Cashew, Mango, and Pistachio trees. The fruit of this tree has yellowish skin with white flesh. They are drupes with a single seed covered in thick husk. The tree earned different nicknames with the passage of time. Botanically known as Argania Spinosa, it is a genus of flowering plants. The trees grow to a height of 8 to 10 m and live up to approximately 200 years. They have a wide spreading crown and are thorny. The leaves of Argan tree are small with the length ranging from 2 to 4 m and the shape of these leaves being oval. It also has small flowers with five pale yellow-green petals. The flowering takes place in the month of April. Moreover, the fruit of Argan tree has a length of 2 to 4 cm and the width is 1.5 to 3 cm. Inside this fruit is a very hard nut which contains one or sometimes two or three oil rich seeds which carry numerous benefits.
